Standing for Justice

June 4, 2020 GREATER GOOD INSTITUTE

Dear Greater Good Community,

It’s been a week since we learned about the brutal and unjustifiable murder of George Floyd at the hands of Minneapolis police officers. Like you, we are outraged. Tragically, we know racism and police brutality is a daily occurrence for black men. As protests enter their 9th day, we must use this moment to come together to stop racial violence, to end white supremacy, and dismantle systems of oppression in all forms.

We can’t ignore racial injustice and inequality anymore. For too long, business leaders have shied away at speaking out publicly around these issues. It is time. We can no longer ignore the ways white privilege, white fragility, white supremacy, and racism inflict suffering among people of color.

We’ve always been committed to creating a more just, fair, and equitable world for everyone. Now more than ever, we are reaffirming that commitment. We will not tolerate complacency or do business with anyone who is not in alignment with our beliefs and our commitments.

As we continue to speak up about the injustices that plague our nation and our world, we remain committed to using our voice, our knowledge and our platform to advocate for Civil Rights and the Call for Justice.

In addition, we support and we’ve contributed to the organization, Black Lives Matter. We encourage our business colleagues and community members to give what they can financially and help fuel this campaign for justice.

We are also committed to continually listening, learning, and improving. We know that even as advocates, we still have a lot of learning to do. We are currently planning for a book study on Robin DiAngelo’s White Fragility: Why It’s So Hard for White People to Talk About Race. We encourage you and your team to read along with us.

It’s been difficult and heartbreaking to watch the events of our country unfold, but we can- as leaders and as allies- use our influence for the greater good, by acting from a place of love and inclusion and standing together to support black lives.

Because Black Lives Matter.

In Solidarity,
